In Vietnam, smallholder coffee farmers have no access to weather index insurance. That’s why Hillridge is here to help. The Hillridge weather-based technology aims to improve the coverage and quality of insurance for farmers in a way that goes well beyond current crop or livestock insurance. We aim to stabilize smallholder farmer’s incomes and contribute to their peace of mind which allows them to invest in improving farm quality and productivity.
For the first time approaching coffee community in Vietnam, we fortunately have had chance to cooperate with Mr Toi Nguyen who is leading Vietnam’s coffee renaissance, CEO/Founder of Future Coffee Farm whose plantation around 180 kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City has become an inspiration to new coffee farmers with grand ambitions of affecting coffee perceptions around the world. Future Coffee Farm has gained the reputation as a source of the best quality coffee bean in Vietnam.
In line with the sustainability ethos of both Hillridge and Future Coffee Farm, we enhance the value to each others by discussing on how mitigating the financial impact of poor weather on the crops or livestock, carefully calculating frictional costs of operation as low as possible and supporting each others by opening training sessions to raise the awareness of smallholder coffee farmers on weather parametric index insurance.
